The Civic Music Association of Des Moines is excited to announce its newest music series, “CMA Plus.”

Through this program, CMA will be partnering with venues across Des Moines to showcase a wide variety of music from many diverse genres. The new venture will also promote the creation of several artistic and cultural partnerships. CMA Plus events will be held all over Des Moines, creating endless opportunities for residents to see fantastic live music.

By creating CMA Plus, we hope to expand upon our rich history of providing the Des Moines area with some of the best talent in the world.

Sneak Peak

This season’s inaugural CMA Plus concerts will be held with our wonderful partners at Noce. Noce is a classic jazz club located in the heart of downtown Des Moines with a long history of bringing premier acts to the city. The first Plus performance will feature Chuck Owen — a highly sought-after jazz ensemble composer and director — and his band ReSurgence. The group features other big names like Grammy nominees Kate McGarry and violinist Sara Caswell, along with Danny Gottlieb — the original drummer for the Pat Metheny Group.

The second concert will showcase clarinet and guitar duo, Anat Cohen & Marcello Gonçalves, whose album Outra Coisa: The Music of Moacir Santos was nominated for Best Latin Jazz Album at the 2017 Grammy’s. Anat Cohen was voted “Clarinetist of the Year” every year from 2008 to 2021 by the Jazz Journalists Association. Marcello Gonçalves is a seven-string guitarist, music director, and producer from Brazil who has worked with legends like João Bosco and Chico Buarque. These big names in the jazz world are only the beginning of CMA Plus!
