Civic Music Association is proud to announce pianist/composer, Philip Glass will kick off the 90th Anniversary Season on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at 1:00 pm. One of the greatest modern day composers, Glass will perform Works for Solo Piano, with personal narration, in Sheslow Auditorium on the Drake University campus. This performance will kick off a significant milestone for Civic Music Association as the organization enters into its 90th Anniversary season.
Glass will also be featured in a panel discussion, moderated by Iowa Public Radio’s Arts and Culture Reporter, John Pemble, on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the Des Moines Arts Center. The 21st Century Concert Experience: Engaging New Audiences thru Multimedia and Technology will feature Philip Glass, Joseph Giunta, Music Director and Conductor of the Des Moines Symphony and Academy, Michael Egel, General Director of Des Moines Metro Opera, Chris Ford, Program Manager, Des Moines Music Coalition and Dr. Jacob Harrison, Director of Orchestral Activities at Iowa State University. Iowa Public Television (IPTV) will be recording the session to air in 2014.
Tickets to the concert will go on sale to the general public on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 9 am and can be purchased at Midwestix (www.midwestix.com) or by calling the Civic Music Association office at 515.280.4020. Discounts are available for students prior to the concert, or a $10 student rush ticket can be purchased the day of the show (based on availability.)
