Imani Winds – January 24, 2014

Civic Music Association proudly presents the North American premier wind quintet, Imani Winds, on Friday, January 24, 2014.  This Grammy nominated ensemble has paved a unique path in the classical music world, commissioning new compositions while maintaining the tradition of the genre of classical chamber music.

Imani Wind’s performance resume takes them all across the globe with collaborations just as wide, with artists from Yo Yo Ma and Wayner Shorter.  In perfect alignment with Civic Music Association’s Partners in Music Education programs, the Imani Winds deepens classical music education by participating in extended residencies, offering their expertise to thousands of students every year. During their stay in Des Moines, the Imani Winds will visit multiple Des Moines Public Elementary Schools to educate and inspire through FREE interactive workshops.  The ensemble will also be featured in the Des Moines Symphony Academy’s Woodwind Quintet Invitational on Friday, January 24 offering the keynote address and workshops with participants.
