Fall/Winter Intern Job Description
The mission of Civic Music Association (CMA) is to engage, enrich and educate the central Iowa community through provocative, world-class musical performances by legends and rising stars.
During the 2012/13 Season, Civic Music Association will present six concerts at Drake University’s Sheslow Auditorium and provide Partners in Music Education Programs in conjunction with all concerts.  Special events and fundraisers will also take place to support the organization. 
Functions of the Intern are as follows:
Artist/Contracts:  assist staff in fulfilling the needs of the artist for each contracted event.  These may include backstage set up, planning staging needs and sound and lighting needs, as well as making hotel and travel arrangements.
Concert/Event Management:  assist staff in managing the box office and ticket sales, lobby event coordination, member promotion, artist coordination, pre-concert lectures, educational activities with the artist and area students.
Fundraising:  assist staff with grant writing, coordination of any fundraising efforts determined by the Development Committee.
Marketing/Communications:  assist staff with database management, newsletter, press releases, work on any branding and marketing initiatives as established by the Marketing Committee.
Public Relations:  assist staff with media/editorial, print advertising, radio promotions/sponsorship, radio/tv ads, community events.
Special Event Management:  assist staff with catering, invitations, entertainment, program printing, response management.
Graphic Design: create posters, print ads and other graphic arts work for the organization.
Civic Music Association is a non-profit that is staffed with one full time Executive Director, a part-time Marketing and Patron Services Manager and an all volunteer Board of Directors. The Intern will have the opportunity to work with the staff and Board of Directors and interact with individuals from other businesses in the community.  These individuals have expertise in marketing, branding, fundraising, training, law, education, etc.  and will offer an additional depth of knowledge for the Intern to experience.
The Intern will need to be available for each concert during the semester that they work for Civic Music Association.  The concerts are generally held on weekend evenings.  Daily work-week schedule is flexible.  15-20 hours requested.
