Civic Music Association welcomes Peter Stevenson as new Executive Director

Civic Music Association is thrilled to announce Peter Stevenson as its new Executive Director. An extensive search found Mr. Stevenson to be the top candidate to helm the long-standing, leading arts organizations in Des Moines.
peterstevenson1Peter Stevenson brings 18 years of experience in the nonprofit cultural arena to his new role as Executive Director of Civic Music Association. Previously Peter served as Director of Development at the Des Moines Symphony and Academy, where he oversaw significant annual fund growth and the successful completion of a capital campaign that raised over $10 million. A graduate of the University of Iowa with a master’s degree in art history, Peter is a former Fulbright scholar who has used his knowledge of art and culture to develop exhibitions and create interpretive programs at many leading institutions, including The Field Museum in Chicago, The Art Institute of Chicago, The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) and The Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. At SFMOMA, he managed adult public programs, including collaborative projects involving the San Francisco Symphony and San Francisco Opera. His interpretive specialties are handheld audio and multimedia tours, as well as Web sites dedicated to specific exhibitions and individuals. Projects Peter has managed have won many awards from the American Association of Museums and the National Association for Interpretation.
Jeff Kane, Civic Music Association’s 2014/15 Board of Directors President and Search Committee Chair, welcomes Stevenson as CMA embarks on the 90th Anniversary Season. “We had a very large number of outstanding applicants for the position from both central Iowa and other states in the US. This speaks very highly of not only Civic Music, but the Greater Des Moines area and it’s reputation as a great place to live and work and the importance it puts on support of the arts. We are very pleased Peter will be joining as Executive Director and excited about what the future holds for both Civic Music and the continually expanding arts culture within Central Iowa.”
“I am honored to be chosen to lead this amazing organization. I look forward to working with the CMA Board to maintain it’s 90-year history of excellence and build on the recent successes achieved by my predecessor Carrie Clogg.” ~ Peter Stevenson
Stevenson will begin his new role with Civic Music Association on August 1, 2014.
