Civic Music Association is pleased to announce a partnership with Greater Des Moines Music Coalition (DMMC) for The Soul Rebels concert held on Friday, November 15, 2013 at Wooly’s.  The Soul Rebels will headline the 8th Annual Little Big Fest presented by the Greater Des Moines Music Coalition and Civic Music Association.  This annual one-day festival traditionally features roots, bluegrass, jam, world, blues, jazz & soul music in various music venues.  This year the festival will be showcased in several Historic East Village locations including Wooly’s, House of Bricks and the Underground.

“Civic Music Association understands the importance of creating creative partnerships to grow and expand our audience base,” commented Carrie Clogg, Executive Director of Civic Music Association, “This new partnership with the Des Moines Music Coalition will offer us the opportunity to work together to offer more affordable and accessible live music opportunities for Central Iowans.”

Chris Ford, administrator of the DMMC, explains that “the focus of the DMMC’s work is to provide music-related opportunities for creative expression, entertainment, and work for the youth of the Greater Des Moines area, and we believe that collaboration with organizations like the Civic Music Association will allow us to connect with those young people that have yet to be served by our past programming.” He added, “While a large portion of our area’s youth relates to music that you might hear at our summer festival, 80/35, there exists a strong contingent of people that connect deeply with jazz and classical music, which are traditionally emphasized in our schools. The Civic Music Association is a resource for those musicians and fans, and the DMMC hopes to contribute to their efforts.”

The Des Moines Music Coalition has reserved a limited number of performance spots to be filled by artists selected through a submission process. Submissions are due by end of day, August 5. Details at desmoinesmc.com.

As part of Civic Music Association’s Partners in Music Education Program, The Soul Rebels will be conducting a workshop with local students earlier in the day.  A selected individual or ensemble will be one of the opening bands for The Soul Rebels headlining performance that evening.

Full details on Little Big Fest and line-up will be announced soon. Festival passes ($20 advance) and individual Soul Rebels tickets ($15 advance), will go on sale thru Midwestix on Monday, August 5th at 9 am.
