Business Manager

Civic Music Association (CMA) is in search of a Business Manager who has a passion for the arts along with the skills and experience to manage the finances and perform the day-to-day operational work.   

Primary job duties

Monitor the organization’s financial situation ensuring all business activities stay in line with the budget and all contractual obligations and reporting requirements are being met. Manage revenue, expenses, and the overall P&L of the organization. Ensure the organization is operating efficiently utilizing technology to streamline processes and reporting. Create data analytics for various committees to measure performance and create reports for the board of directors. Perform the daily activities that support the business and the customer, including ticket sales, accounts payable, donations, and general office work. Perform fundraising activities. Monitor grant lifecycles for deadlines, programs, and reporting requirements. Establish and grow relationships with donors, patrons, volunteers, and vendor partners. 

Skills and qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in finance, business management or related field. At least 3 years’ experience as a business manager, finance manager, or similar role. Proven experience with financial, business, and operational management processes. Strong capabilities with database and information systems software. Previous data analysis experience. Proven ability with financial and budgetary processes. QuickBooks experience required. Advanced knowledge of Excel required. Fundraising and development experience preferred. Grant writing experience ideal.

Who we are

World Class chamber, jazz, and world music is what defines the Civic Music Association of Des Moines. CMA was established in 1925 by three visionary women who believed that Des Moines should be a place where the world’s greatest musicians should come to perform. The mission of CMA is to engage, enrich, and educate the central Iowa community through provocative, world-class musical performances by legends and rising stars. 

This is a part-time, hourly position, 25 hours per week. Pay range is $20 – $23 per hour. Pay range and hours may be negotiable with evidence of successful development and/or grant writing experience.

This position works primarily in the CMA office but also has the ability to work remotely on occasion. Requires the ability to periodically work outside of normal business hours; early mornings, evenings, and weekends to participate in board/committee meetings and concerts/events as needed.
